Welcome back all BBES families!
We are excited to be welcoming back our students, and kicking off a tremendous year in PE. We have already been working on our throwing and catching skills this year, and this week we "kick-off" our soccer unit! We have also welcomed our student-teacher from NIU, Ms. Paxton, who will be joining us throughout September and October. Ms. Paxton will be covering the fundamental skills of soccer with all students, as well as diving into some modified games and game-play strategies with our older students. We will cover skills and topics such as; dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and goalie-play, as well as throw-ins, corner kicks, and penalty-kicks. 6th Graders will also be given a written assessment to check their cognitive understanding of the game and skills. Please feel free to follow our Twitter and Facebook pages for daily / weekly updates! #ALLIN #TheBayWay Hello BBES Families!!!
s Welcome back to the second semester and a great start to 2018! We are happy and proud to announce that our Traverse Climbing Wall, your students have worked so hard raising funds for, has been delivered here to BBES! We are awaiting installation, but are very excited to begin utilizing this fun piece of technology into our PE curriculum! On January 22nd, we will be kicking-off our 2nd annual BBES Jump Rope For Heart Event! We will have a special guest from the American Heart Association coming in to speak to the students in the morning, providing them with all of the info and fun lessons that come along with this tremendous program. Students will be given information on how to log-in, raise funds, and earn amazing prizes along the way. Please be on the lookout for more info in emails and Sunday phone calls. We are beginning our 3rd quarter of PE with volleyball skills and gameplay, as well as continuing our Social Emotional Lessons with Second Step on Tuesdays. Thank you for all of your support with our program and your students the first half of this school year. We hope to continue our success throughout the second semester. Thank you! -BBES PE Team! Attention BBES Families! BBES PE Team will be hosting a Walk-a-thon Fundraiser on Friday, November 3rd to help raise funds for the installation of a Traverse Climbing Wall from Everlast Climbing. Please see the attached form to help donate funds as well as collect additional funds for this event. We are asking for an initial donation of $10, and for every additional $10, your student will gain an additional raffle ticket for a prize of their choice! Please contact the PE team with any questions you may have, and we thank you in advance for your help and consideration! Thank you! Welcome back BBES families! We are excited to get the 2017-2018 school year off to a great start on Wednesday, August 16th! As a quick reminder and note to all new and returning families, we would like for all students to bring a clean pair of athletic shoes to school with them that they may leave there to serve as PE shoes for the year. We will begin this year by reviewing / addressing PE rules and regulations as well as covering emergency procedures and what we will be learning in PE this year! We are excited for a fun-filled year of sports, games, fitness, and teamwork that will allow students to improve their overall fitness as well as athletic skills and social / emotional intelligence.
We can't wait to see families on our BBES Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 24th, where we can address any questions you may have on this upcoming year. We hope everyone has had a terrific summer vacation and is ready to go #AllIn this year with BBES PE! #BBES Upon our return from Spring Break, students will begin the Spring Roller Skating unit on Wednesday, April 5th. Students are welcome to bring their own helmets and safety gear, however we will be using the skates provided by SkateTime. Students will work on their roller skating skill as well as ways to stay safe and avoid injury while enjoying their time on wheels! This is one of the most anticipated units of the year, and we are excited to see students progress their skill level! If you have any questions or concerns regarding this exciting unit, please do not hesitate to contact us here at BBES!
We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing Spring Break! -BBES PE Team As we begin the month of March (and hopefully a transition to warmer weather) we would like to keep all BBES families in the loop with what is going on in BBES PE. Thursday, March 2nd, we will be having Spring Pictures in the gym. Students will have their pictures taken during their PE class time. Any missing students will have the opportunity to take "make-up pictures" in the near future. Friday, March 3rd, is a Teacher Institute Day and there will be no school for students. Next Monday, March 6th, we will be starting our Floor Hockey unit in PE. Students will learn fun hockey skills such as; proper hockey stick handling and control, puck dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive play. Throughout the unit, we will be assessing students' ability to pass and track a moving object as well as strike an object with an implement. Sixth grade students will be given a written assessment later next week to check their understanding of basic hockey skills, rules, and strategy. We will be posting a study guide to this exam early next week. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this unit. Our Floor Hockey unit will lead us to the week of Spring Break (March 27 - March 31). Upon our return we will be roller skating. As with our fall skating session, we will provide skates, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and helmets. Please feel free to send students with their own safety gear and make sure they are wearing / bringing a pair of socks to skate in. Skating will take place from April 5th - April 12th. Please contact us with any questions / concerns, and don't forget to stay up-to-date with BBES PE by following us on Twitter @BristolBayPE. Have a great day! We are thrilled to announce that Bristol Bay Elementary School has raised over $8,000 to date for Jump Rope For Heart and the American Heart Association! We had our JRFH finale on Friday, February 3rd and we were overjoyed to see all students K-6 come down to the gym as a grade level and compete in jump rope competitions and practice their skills. Of course we are pleasantly surprised and proud of the monetary donations our students have raised, and hope to continue to see that amount climb! Thank you to all those that have donated and we look forward to continuing this fun new tradition in future years! #JumpRopeForHeart #AmericanHeartAssociation
