About UsThe Bristol Bay Elementary Physical Education Team is dedicated to bringing quality and student activity to each lesson we hold. We are determined to portray a healthy lifestyle and lifetime activities so that students may utilize them throughout their lifetimes. We utilize a variety of activities and instructional strategies that allow each and every student to maximize their potential both inside and out of the PE setting.

P.E. Rules• Tagger is always right!
• When the whistle blows; stop, look, and listen. • Respect yourself, others, and equipment. • No Sliding! • Follow directions completely, the first time! |
Gym Shoes• In order to keep our gym floor clean and safe for our students to run on, it is important that all students wear non-slip, non-marking gym shoes to class each day. They may wear different shoes to school, but please leave a clean pair of gym shoes in their locker. Thanks!

Grading• Students will be evaluated throughout the year in a variety of individual and team building skills.
• Along with skill evaluations, students will be assessed on their behavior and participation. • At BBES, we seek to cultivate life-long learners who are active, healthy, and can successfully work alongside others to achieve goals. |
Medical Notes / Absences• We understand that injuries happen throughout the school year. If a student is left unable to participate in PE class, they should have a note from a medical professional (both a hard copy, and a copy faxed to the school nurse for record keeping). This will let us know what happened, and how long that student is to remain out of action in PE class.
• If a student is not feeling well, a note from a parent / guardian will allow that student to sit-out of the day's activities during class, as well as outdoor recess. |
2nd Step Letter to Families
Dear Family,
We want your child to be as successful as possible at school. Success in school is not just about reading and math. It is also about knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. We will be using the Second Step program in your child's classroom to teach these critical skills.
The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas:
1. Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, and be assertive when asking for help with schoolwork.
2. Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own and others' feelings. Students also learn how to take another's perspective and how to show compassion.
3. Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as anxiety or anger.
4. Problem Solving: Students learn a process for solving problems with other in a positive way.
Your child will be learning a lot this year - and he or she will need your help! throughout the year your child will be brining home Home Links that go with several of the Second Step lessons. Home Links are simple, fun activities for you and your child to complete together. They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows.
If you have any questions about the Second Step program, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life!
Sincerely,
